Concertina - Anglo Concertina 3.0

The Concertina is a user-friendly virtual Anglo Concertina featuring an authentic sound, tuned in the widely used key of C/G. This versatile instrument can be transposed by plus or minus one octave in semitone increments.

As a bisonoric instrument, it produces distinct notes depending on whether the bellows are pushed or pulled. The C/G setup includes one row of buttons that generate a C chord when pushed and a G chord when pulled. Pull notes provide the scale tones interspersed between these chord notes, while a third row on the right side of the interface offers additional accidentals not available in the other two rows.

This configuration aligns well with instruments such as fiddles, flutes, and whistles, which are typically tuned to D, making it an ideal choice for ensemble playing.

To play, users simply tilt the device left for a push note or right for a pull note while pressing the corresponding button. The PUSH/PULL display indicates the direction of bellows movement, enhancing user interaction and clarity.

For further guidance, tapping the "?" icon reveals note names. Additionally, players can reverse bellows direction while pressing a button by tilting in the opposite direction if desired.

The instrument includes various adjustable settings accessible through the "i" icon. Here, users can modify transposition options, tilt sensitivity, push/pull tilt direction, and configurations for the right-side chromatic row. Pitch can be transposed up or down within one octave in semitone increments. To reset transposition to zero, simply tap the number next to the transpose slider.

Specific transposition settings allow for configurations such as setting it to -2 for a Bb/F instrument and -3 for an A/E instrument. For a Bass Baritone instrument, which is tuned one octave lower than a standard C/G instrument, adjust the transpose setting to -12. It is important to note that while the pitch changes with transposition, the displayed note labels remain consistent.

For optimal accessibility during play, it is recommended to support the iPhone by placing it between the top of your left palm and your thumb and little finger on the right. This grip facilitates easy access to buttons regardless of whether the device faces upward or outward.

Button placement follows a modified 17-key Jeffries style layout tailored for engaging with traditional Irish dance tunes in commonly played keys.
